This presidential statement covers the same conflict as the CENTCOM dispatch scored at the top of the Iran cluster (0716, 66), and shares that dispatch's defensible posture: the strikes are framed as responsive — carried out in honor of the great patriots killed in the war with Iran — against Iran's military capacity, very very badly damaged, with the consistent aim that Iran could not have a nuclear weapon. That is force in answer to an attack that killed Americans, directed at the adversary's military, which the strong-military clause of Peace Through Strength endorses and the non-interventionist clause does not forbid (XVI); and it defends American lives and interests (I).
