Holding
A criminal indictment for offering violence to a foreign minister in violation of the law of nations is not a case affecting ambassadors within Article III, Section 2: it is a public prosecution by the United States in which the minister himself has no concern, so the circuit court, not the Supreme Court's original jurisdiction, has cognizance of it. The Court declined to decide whether original jurisdiction over ambassador cases is exclusive, deciding no more than the case required.
